Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream Recipe

Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream(Click the above to view 5 pictures. Best viewed with Internet Explorer 7.)
How do you turn a bucket of plain old vanilla ice cream into something exotic and lickylicious without having to splurge US$3 per scoop?

Easy. Very easy!

I learned this trick recently and thought I would share it with you, especially now when it's sizzling hot outside with temperatures pushing the 90's or even 100's Fahrenheit in the United States.

Matcha (抹茶) is a prized powdered form of green tea used particularly in the Japanese tea ceremony. Matcha has gained popularity and is now used in many baked goods, noodles, drinks, and all sorts of desserts...

Matcha (Green Tea) Ice CreamSo, what did I do?

The recipe is really easy and you need only two ingredients below.

Recipe: Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream

Matcha (Green Tea Powder)1) A bucket of vanilla ice cream of your choice.
2) Matcha or green tea powder where you can find here on my Food Store.

Leave the ice cream out for 30 minutes or until they turn slightly soft. Add in a few tablespoons of matcha (depends how matcha-y you wanted your ice cream to be), then stir and blend well with the ice cream. The ice cream should turn light green in color and tastes exotic with a slight tint of bitter flavor derived from the matcha.

Freeze the ice cream, scoop it up and serve cold.

See, I said it was very easy!

Wow, that's soo easy, it's scary.

What a great idea! I had to give up flavored ice cream when I became lactose intolerant a few months ago. The only lactose free ice cream I can find is vanilla.

But thanks to you, green tea here I come! Yay!

Matcha is on my list of foods I'm trying to incorporate into my diet more this year. Maybe if I have it in ice cream, it won't feel like a homework assignment!

How about just sprinkling matcha powder on top of the vanilla ice cream. I do that all the time with Milo. You don't have to wait for the ice cream to melt and reharden! ;-)

AHHHH....Clever!
30 minutes? I think the ice-cream will melt in less than 5minutes here! But that is good - that means I can have the "re-engineered" ice-cream sooner! LOL!

It's really a neat trick. Thks!

Do you know why your Japanese visa application got rejected? Did they give you the reason? Shouldn't it be pretty straight forward as long as you submit all the necessary documents?

Very nice. You might consider making your own ice cream and using a great green tea, snow needles, or even an oolong. That's very easy too.
